Zeynep Erçetin was born in 1990, Ürgüp, Nevşehir. She graduated from Department of History, Boğaziçi University in 2012. She went to SOAS, University of London (the School of Oriental and African Studies) with an Erasmus scholarship in 2013. She received her MA degree from İstanbul Şehir University, History Department in 2014 with her thesis entitled “Ulema and Politics: The Life and Political Works of Ömer Ziyâeddin Dağıstânî (1849-1921). Her research interests include the socio-political and intellectual history of the late Ottoman Empire. She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies at İstanbul 29 Mayıs University, in the Department of History.
