Marie-Christine Bornes Varol is a professor at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO), Department of Etudes Hébraïques et Juives, where she teaches and supervises graduate research on Judeo-Spanish linguistics and Sephardic civilization. She was the director for the collection and the online presentation of the Corpus Oral de Judéo-Espagnol (http://cocoon.tge-adonis.fr/exist/crdo/), published and edited numerous books, including Le judéo-espagnol vernaculaire d'Istanbul-Etude linguistique (2008) and Manuel de Judéo-Espagnol- Langue et Culture (1st ed. 1996), which won the Alberto Benveniste prize in 2005 and has been translated into English and Bulgarian.
