Tanya Elal Lawrence is currently a PhD candidate at the History Department at Yale University. Her work focuses on the Iranian community of Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries with a particular emphasis on Ottoman-Iranian encounters and the impact of such encounters on literary and cultural production in both the Ottoman and Iranian contexts. Tanya Lawrence graduated from Jesus College, Oxford where she had read Oriental Studies in 2009 and then obtained an M.A. in History from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul in 2012.
