Emrah SAHİN is the Program Director in Turkish Studies at the University of Florida. He received a PhD degree from McGill University in History, and worked as a scholar at McGill and Florida. Since August 2010, he has received the Turkish Cultural Foundation Fellowship, Sakıp Sabancı International Research Award, McGill University Teaching Award, and the Project Go Turkey Grant from U.S. Defense Language and National Security Education Office. His research projects transcend the usual boundaries of Islamic History, Turkish and Mediterranean Civilizations, Muslim-Christian Encounters, and U.S. Interests in the Middle East. His current work is a peer-reviewed monograph. It addresses the Ottoman officials and explains how politics have been shaped by religious exchanges taking place within and beyond the imperial borders. Based on international archives, the manuscript presents a narrative of Muslim authorities and Christian missionaries. Besides 6 refereed articles and this book presently at a university press, he also published an edited volume on Ottoman Africa and 8 invited articles. His future book is a study of discourse between Turkish ideals and European ideas.
EMRAH ŞAHİN, Florida Üniversitesi Türkiye Çalışmaları Direktörüdür. Ayrıca Küresel İslam Araştırmaları Merkezi Danışma Kurulu Üyesi ve Uluslararası Çalışmalar Programı Öğretim Üyesidir. Türkiye ve Kanada’da eğitimini tamamlamıştır (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Lisans, Bilkent Üniversitesi Yüksek Lisans, McGill Üniversitesi Doktora). Çalışmaları genellikle siyasetin toplumu nasıl yansıttığını ve kültürü nasıl etkilediğini izah eder. Florida Yılın Öğretmeni Ödülü’ne aday gösterilmiş, McGill Seçkin Eğitimci Ödülü ve Sakıp Sabancı Uluslararası Araştırma Ödülü’ne layık görülmüştür.
