Oya Gözel-Durmaz was born in Istanbul in 1981. In 2003, she received her B.S. degree from the Department of International Relations of Istanbul University, Turkey. In 2007, she submitted her master’s thesis entitled “The Implementation of the Ottoman Land Code of 1858 in Eastern Anatolia” to the Department of History,the Middle East Technical University (METU). Shereceived her Ph.D., entitled “A City Transformed: War, Demographic Change and Profiteering in Kayseri (1915-1920)”, from METU in 2014. She worked as a researchassistant in the Department of History at METU from 2004 to 2014. She is currently an Assistant Professor of History at Kocaeli University.
